Pawnee, Okla. – The Pawnee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Ponca City man for more than 115 grams of methamphetamine and possession of firearms after a traffic stop on Saturday, July 2nd.
On Saturday, July 2nd at around 7:00 PM, Deputy Dartanian Tilly stoped a white Chevy pickup near the intersection of Highway 64 and 35500 Road for failure to maintain lane.
Deputy Tilly made contact with the driver who was identified as Sidney Bocanegra, 28, of Ponca City who seemed nervous and showed signs of intoxication.
Bocanegra told the deputy he had smoked marijuana and there was more marijuana inside the truck as well as a firearm. Bocanegra then reached between the seat but was stopped by the deputy.
After field sobriety testing, Bocanegra was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
While performing an inventory of the vehicle, deputies located two sandwich bags full of methamphetamine, digital scales, prescription medication, and marijuana inside the truck. One of the firearms had the serial number removed.
“This just goes to show how proactive policing and increasing the number of deputies in this county is working. Deputies are out making traffic stops and taking drugs off the streets. It’s a good day for Pawnee County, we stopped these drugs from making it into the hands of our kids.” Said Sheriff Darrin Varnell
Bocanegra was booked into the Pawnee County Jail on complaints of trafficking methamphetamines, driving under the influence, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Bocanegra is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
