The Ponca City High School Symphonic Orchestra earned straight superior ratings on stage and in sight-reading Wednesday afternoon at the OSSAA State Orchestra Contest held at Edmond Santa Fe High School. Since the orchestra received superior ratings at their fall contest, the group has earned the OSSAA Sweepstakes Award. This award is the highest honor that can be earned by a high school orchestra in Oklahoma. The group performed “Ancient Echoes of Time” by Douglas Wagner and “The Emerald Falcon” by Richard Meyer.
Director Paula Cochran would like to thank all of the students and directors for their hard work today. “It takes a village! I am so grateful for the support of our community, our school personnel, and everyone who voted for the bond. Our Concert Hall platform and classrooms set our students up for success. To my students, the cards were stacked against us with the weather and days of school we missed. You never gave up! Thank you for working so hard and believing in yourselves”, she said.
A special thank you also goes to Katie Hauge, Cassidy Broome, Trent Davis, Connor Pratt, Jason Salazar, Chad Keilman, Susan Clothier, Dr. John Clinton and Dan Larson.
Please join us for our Orchestras In Review concert on Tuesday, March 11th. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. in the Ponca City Schools Concert Hall. Admission is free and this concert will feature 5th through 12th grade orchestras.
