The Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association (OSSAA) released a statement announcing the suspension of the Edmond North High School girls wrestling program.

According to OSSAA, the suspension comes after “two egregious acts of unsportsmanlike conduct” during two wrestling events.

Edmond North High School received a formal warning from OSSAA after the first incident of unsportsmanlike conduct.

“While we regret any situation that results in disciplinary action, it is imperative that all programs adhere to the expectations set forth to maintain the integrity of high school athletics in Oklahoma,” said OSSAA.

Edmond Public Schools confirmed to FOX 25 that the actions that led to the suspension were made by a parent, not a student.

The unspecified incidents violate OSSAA policy, which has been in place for three years.

“This is the first time we have had a team commit two egregious acts in the same season,” OSSAA stated.

Edmond North’s team will be suspended for the remainder of the season.

An appeal by Edmond North will take place at the OSSAA Board of Directors meeting on Feb. 12.

“EPS has appealed the suspension. We do not believe the team should be suspended over the actions of a parent,” said Edmond Public Schools.
