During the entire month of July, the Northern Oklahoma Humane Society is running a special promotion, generously made possible by the BISSELL Pet Foundation and MetLife Pet Insurance. As part of their National “Empty the Shelters” adoption event, the adoption price for all adult animals at the shelter has been discounted to just $10 until the end of the month. This fantastic initiative spans across 687 participating partners in 49 states, including the Northern Oklahoma Humane Society and even Canada.
The “Empty the Shelters” event, known as the nation’s largest funded adoption initiative, has successfully found loving homes for over 158,000 pets since its establishment in 2016. The ultimate goal of the BISSELL Pet Foundation is to ensure that every pet without a family finds a forever home. Partnering with MetLife Pet Insurance, they aim to make pet adoption more affordable for potential pet owners, offering a significant reduction from the regular adoption fees, which usually range from $85 to $150 based on the animal’s age and required vetting. For animals that have been in the shelter for an extended period, their adoption fees are typically reduced to around $25. However, with this program, every adult dog or cat can be adopted for just $10.
The Northern Oklahoma Humane Society, like many shelters, faces challenges due to limited space and resources. While they do their best to accommodate all animals in need, their capacity has been stretched to the limit, making events like this adoption promotion crucial in helping them clear the shelters and give new animals a chance to find loving homes.
Founder of the BISSELL Pet Foundation, Cathy Bissell, expresses excitement about the collaboration with MetLife Pet Insurance, offering 30 days of pet insurance at no cost to adopters, as well as the option to purchase an annual pet insurance policy. This insurance coverage can be vital in helping adopters handle unexpected illnesses or injuries, reducing the likelihood of pet owners having to surrender their beloved pets due to financial constraints.
Despite the challenges posed by the growing number of homeless pets, the Northern Oklahoma Humane Society remains dedicated to their mission of finding loving homes for animals and keeping them off the streets. This adoption event provides potential adopters with the opportunity to help the shelter clear its facilities, making room for another group of animals in need.
