NORMAN, Okla. –
The Norman Police Department says it is investigating the death of a University of Oklahoma rugby player.
OU confirmed Joe Pal’s death on social media Friday, saying,
“Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of a of beloved teammate, friend, and member of our rugby family. Joe, your passion, strength and spirit will never be forgotten. Sending our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones during this time. Rest in Power.”
NPD said it responded to an incident near Campus Corner around 4 a.m. on March 2. Officers say once on scene, they found a man who appeared to have been in a physical altercation; the man was transported to the hospital.
Police say an investigation into what happened before their arrival is ongoing.
According to NPD, investigators are working to determine the specific causes of his injuries, the nature of the altercation and what led up to it.
