Statement from the Ponca City Police Department
The Ponca City Police Department responded to a single vehicle accident shortly before 5:00am this morning, just south of the intersection of 14th St and Hartford. We appreciate the public’s concern for the motorist involved in this incident and we want to express our gratitude for your assistance with multiple lane closures during your morning commutes.
At this time, the preliminary investigation has led investigators to believe that the driver of the vehicle was intoxicated and she has been transported by helicopter to St Francis in Tulsa for multiple injuries. The involved vehicle departed the roadway after hitting a curb, rolled multiple times, and came to a rest in the yard of a residence after the driver of the vehicle was ejected. In addition to the driver, two dogs were in the vehicle and one of those dogs did not survive the accident.
The investigation into a significant motor vehicle accident is a complicated process and we have multiple resources within our agency concentrating their efforts into this incident. This is an ongoing investigation, and although we are committed to keeping our streets safe, we must use this opportunity to remind all citizens that driving intoxicated is never a good option. Ponca City is a great community and we implore each of you to use good judgment and consider the safety of others when operating a vehicle.
