Rick Nielsen is best known as the lead guitarist and founding member of the rock band Cheap Trick. Born on December 22, 1948, in Rockford, Illinois, Nielsen formed Cheap Trick in the 1970s and has remained with the band throughout their career.
Nielsen is known for his distinctive, often eccentric fashion sense, which includes checkerboard patterns and bow ties, as well as his eclectic collection of guitars. Throughout his career, Nielsen has written many of Cheap Trick’s most popular songs, including “I Want You to Want Me,” “Surrender,” and “Dream Police.” He has also collaborated with other artists, including John Lennon and Dave Grohl. With Cheap Trick, Nielsen has sold over 20 million records and has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
