In honor of former Cowley College golfer Brian Groves, Cowley College sophomore Kayli Myers was named this year’s Brian Groves Memorial Scholarship recipient during the 29th annual Tiger Skins/Brian Groves Memorial Golf Tournament Saturday at Ark City Golf & Fitness.
Brian Groves’ father, Mike, was on hand to present Myers with the award. Myers is a member of the defending national champion Lady Tiger cross-country team. The Biology major has a grade point average of 3.70.
Brian Groves (Class of 1998) was a member of the Tiger golf team before moving on to Southwestern College in Winfield. He was tragically killed in a one-vehicle accident in 2002.
Myers is a returning all-conference and all-region runner who was named a Coaches Association All-American as a freshman.
“I am very grateful for this scholarship and opportunity to be at Cowley,” Myers said. “I appreciate all of my coaches and teammates at Cowley and hope to win another national championship.”
Although there were several worthy candidates for the Brian Groves Memorial Scholarship, in the end, the school could not go wrong with selecting Kayli Myers.
