Western Oklahoma saw its first significant snow event of the season yesterday. 3 to 5 inches of snow occurred across the region with some amounts closer to 7 inches. The National Weather Service Office in Norman is still refining the final snowfall amounts as we receive more reports.
Fun Fact (or not so fun depending on your perspective) The Oklahoma record for the most snowfall in a twenty-four-hour period was set in the city of Spavinaw on February 9, 2011. Spavinaw is a small town in Mayes County in the eastern part of the state.
What part of the state gets the most snow? Hands down it’s the Oklahoma Panhandle, especially the western Panhandle, where they average 20-30 inches of snow per year.
