Oklahoma is no stranger to wildfires, but each time they strike, our communities come together in remarkable ways. The recent fires across our district have taken a heavy toll, and my heart goes out to those who have lost homes, property, lives and livelihoods. In the face of destruction, I have been deeply moved by the courage and dedication of our firefighters, first responders, linemen and emergency crews. These men and women have worked tirelessly to protect lives and property, often putting themselves in harm’s way to safeguard our communities. Their bravery does not go unnoticed, and I am profoundly grateful for their service.
At the Capitol, we are in the final stretch of floor action with the March 27 deadline quickly approaching. This week is critical as we work to move legislation forward before time runs out. I was proud to see one of my bills, House Bill 2829, pass the House floor. This measure would prohibit the manufacture and sale of lab-grown meat in Oklahoma, ensuring our state’s proud agricultural heritage remains protected. Oklahoma’s ranchers and farmers feed families across the nation, and I believe we must stand with them against an unregulated industry that threatens consumer transparency. HB2829 now heads to the Senate for consideration.
This month also brought another great Oklahoma tradition—the Oklahoma Youth Expo. Known as the world’s largest junior livestock show, OYE is a showcase of the dedication and hard work of our state’s agricultural youth. I want to recognize two outstanding students from the Pawnee FFA who represented our district this year: Maelee Brown, who exhibited a sheep, and Kate Sherrill, who showed cattle. I had the privilege of joining them in the show ring, and it was an honor to experience firsthand the dedication and hard work that goes into showing livestock. Their commitment to agriculture and the values of responsibility, discipline and perseverance are an example to us all.
Oklahoma’s future is bright because of young leaders like Maelee and Kate. Events like OYE highlight why it is so important to continue investing in agricultural education and supporting programs like FFA that prepare the next generation for success.
I will continue working to support our district and the people who make it strong. If you have questions, comments or input, please reach out to my office.
