Flu season is always difficult. But this year, experts worry that we may face a particularly brutal season. Medical sources are saying that we should be taking the triple threat of flu, COVID and RSV seriously. Officials are acknowledging the early and significant impact of the flu and the threats posed by the others. The Kay County Health Department advises people living with a chronic condition like heart disease, asthma, or diabetes should get a flu shot during if they haven’t already. 9 out of 10 adults hospitalized with flu have at least one underlying medical condition.
Flu is also impacting students and teachers across the state. Pond Creek Hunter Schools closed yesterday and cancelled all activities because of sickness that swept through the school. Further west, Thomas Fay Custer schools, report that 161 students called in sick, that 35% of the student body. Weatherford Schools said that about 200 students were recovering at home.
