Firefighters responded to a house fire Monday afternoon in Winfield.

At approximately 3:15 p.m. Monday, the Winfield Fire/EMS Department responded to a structure fire at 1124 Pecan Lane.

According to a news release from the fire department Tuesday, the residence was unoccupied at the time and multiple neighbors and a lawn mowing crew saw the smoke and reported the fire.

Firefighters arrived to the scene and found the garage and front porch of the residence were heavily involved in fire. Fire crews were able to get a quick knock down of the fire and fully extinguish the blaze in approximately 45 minutes.

Fire damage was contained to the attached garage and the front porch with minor extension of the fire inside the residence. A 2004 Nissan Altima along with the contents of the garage were destroyed in the fire. A pickup in the driveway had minor heat damage to the headlights and front bumper.

WFD was assisted at the scene by members of the Winfield Police Department, Arkansas City Fire/EMS, Burden Fire, and Udall Fire Departments responded via automatic aid assistance. They assisted with fire extinguishment and overhaul of the fire scene.

Due to ambient temperatures near 100 degrees, an ambulance was set up for firefighter rehabilitation and fire crews were rotated during the fire to prevent them from becoming overheated.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
