Fatal Collision Claims Life of Motorcyclist in Kaw City

A tragic collision occurred earlier today, August 18, 2023, at approximately 9:11 AM on State Highway 11 and Acker Hill Road, within the city limits of Kaw City in Kay County. The incident involved a 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle and a 2014 GMC Sierra pickup, resulting in the fatality of the motorcycle’s rider.

The victim has been identified as Ronald D. Ramsey, a 54-year-old white male from Bartlesville. Mr. Ramsey was operating the motorcycle at the time of the collision. Emergency services, including Ponca City EMS, rushed to the scene and subsequently transported him to Alliance Health of Ponca City. Despite their efforts, hospital staff later pronounced him deceased due to the injuries sustained in the collision.

Ernest S. Rennie, a 60-year-old white male from Kaw City, was behind the wheel of the 2014 GMC Sierra pickup. He was also involved in the collision and was transported to Alliance Health of Ponca City in a private vehicle. After receiving medical treatment, Mr. Rennie was released from the hospital.

Details surrounding the exact cause of the collision remain under investigation. The condition of both drivers, as well as the circumstances leading up to the incident, are yet to be determined. Trooper Beck #700 from the Kay/Noble County Detachment of Troop K is leading the investigation, with assistance from several law enforcement agencies including Trooper Vaughan #832, Trooper Hempel #798, Trooper Littlesun #560, and Trooper Miller #614.

The weather was reported as clear, and the roadway was dry, suggesting that environmental factors may not have contributed to the incident. Authorities confirmed that no individuals were pinned or ejected from the vehicles as a result of the collision. Notably, the use of helmets was not observed during the incident. The involvement of alcohol or other substances has not been indicated in the preliminary report.

A multitude of agencies collaborated to manage the aftermath of the collision, including the Kaw Nation Police Department, Kaw City Fire Department and EMS, Ponca City Police Department and EMS, Kay County Sheriff’s Office, Kay County District Attorney’s Office, and the Oklahoma State Medical Examiner Investigator Devon Turner.

As investigations continue, local residents and the community are left mourning the loss of Ronald D. Ramsey and awaiting further details surrounding this tragic incident.
