The Cowley County Amateur Radio Club, in cooperation with Cowley County Emergency Management, will host an Amateur Radio Field Day event on Saturday, June 25, in the Pecan Grove area
at the Winfield Fairgrounds.

According to a press release from Cowley County Emergency Management, the event will be from 1-7 p.m. The public is invited to stop by during that time.

The purpose of this annual event is to practice emergency communications. During this time, members of the club along with Cowley County Emergency Management volunteers will contact as many other Field Day participant groups around the country as possible via radio.

If anyone is curious about amateur radio this is a great opportunity to learn more and even participate. Amateur radio is a form of two-way radio communication allowing licensed operators to communicate with other amateur radio operators both locally and around the world.

Operators are often able to communicate even after other means fail and have been a valuable asset during many emergencies and large-scale disasters, including recent wildfires in Colorado.

The Cowley County Amateur Radio Club is a not-for-profit group formed in 1976 to support the local amateur radio community, to promote amateur radio as a hobby, and to serve the citizens of Cowley County by providing emergency communications in times of crisis.
