Don’t miss out on the chance to experience two rival high schools coming together for a night of beautiful music! The Ponca City Symphony Orchestra once again unites with the Stillwater High School Philharmonic Strings in their annual combined Fall Concert this evening, Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 7 p.m.

Stillwater High School’s Philharmonic Strings open the night with Kirk Mosier’s “American Reel.” They then perform “Slava! (Glory!) by Rimsky-Korsakoff, a majestic old national hymn of Russia. Next, Ponca City takes the stage to perform “Wellerman,” a popular sea shanty from New Zealand arranged by Larry Moore. They then explore a haunting arrangement of the hymn “Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence” entitled “Fantasia on a 17th Century Tune,” composed by Richard Stephan.

Following this, the two orchestras combine under the direction of Ponca City’s former Maestro Dan Larson to take the audience through a familiar tune, “Shenandoah,” arranged by Herman Clebanoff. The concert concludes with a timeless Greek tale, “The Odyssey,” by Soon Hee Newbold.

Head directors Paula Cochran of Ponca City and Scott Jackson of Stillwater, along with Ponca City assistant directors Katie Rolf and Cassidy Broome, welcome the union of both communities for a night of incredible performances. This free concert will be held in the Stillwater Public Schools Performing Arts Center, 1224 North Husband Street, Stillwater.
