We are excited to announce the annual Orchestras in Review concert will take place on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at the Ponca City Schools Concert Hall. The concert will begin at 7:00 pm.
The 6th grade orchestra will start the concert with Catch Me If You Can by Loreta Fin and Jeffrey Frizzi’s version of the famous bluegrass tune Big Rock Candy Mountain. To close their portion of the concert, the 6th grade orchestra combines with the PoHi Philharmonic Orchestra to present Defender of Time by Rob Grice. The 6th grade orchestra is under the direction of Katie Hauge and Cassidy Broome.
Following the 6th grade performance, the PoHi Philharmonic Orchestra will take the stage to present Dance of the Red Dragons by Michael Hopkins.
Next, the 7th grade orchestra will perform Yee-Haw! by Jeremy Woolstenhulme and Burst! by Brian Balmages. After these two selections, the 7th grade orchestra combines with the PoHi Philharmonic Orchestra to perform Carrie Lane Gruselle’s Secret Agent 440. The 7th grade orchestra is under the direction of Cassidy Broome.
Following the 7th grade performance, the PoHi Philharmonic Orchestra will once again take the stage to present Fantasia on Amazing Grace by Elliott Del Borgo. This piece will be conducted by student conductor, Adria Vaden.
Following, the 8th grade orchestra will perform their contest pieces Sinfonia in A Minor arranged by Bob Mathews and Contredanse by Larry Clark.
Next, the 8th grade orchestra will combine with the PoHi Philharmonic Orchestra to perform Andrew Dabczynski’s C-Serpents. The 8th grade orchestra is under the direction of Katie Hauge.
Under the direction of Paula Cochran, the PoHi Symphony Strings will then take the stage to present James McCleod’s arrangement of O Mio Babbino Caro. This piece will feature special guest vocal soloist Jera Kiespert, principal of Roosevelt Elementary School.
Next, the PoHi Symphony winds, brass, and percussion will join the Symphony strings to present their two contest pieces, Ancient Echoes of Time by Douglas Wagner and The Emerald Falcon by Richard Meyer.
Following the PoHi Symphony Orchestra will be our 5th grade orchestra, under the direction of Cassidy Broome. The 5th grade orchestra will begin their performance with traditional piece, Mary Had A Little Lamb. To conclude their portion of the concert, the 5th grade orchestra will perform the fiddle tune Bile ‘Em Cabbage Down and will feature four senior string soloists: Sawyer Scantlin, Lucas Appleman, Harrison Poet, and Jackson Sheets.
To conclude the concert, the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade orchestras will combine with the PoHi Philharmonic and Symphony Orchestras to perform Orpheus in the Underworld by Offenbach.
Admission to the concert is free and the public is cordially invited.
