The Northern Oklahoma College Mavericks split games against rival NOC Enid Saturday afternoon.
The 7th ranked Mavs’ men won 74-62, the Lady Mavs lost to NOC Enid 59-54.
Mavs 74, Jets 62
The NOC Mavs remained unbeaten Saturday afternoon outlasting NOC Enid 74-62 at Foster-Piper Fieldhouse.
The Mavs (9-0) are now 4-0 in conference play while NOC Enid (5-3) dropped to 3-2 in Region 2.
JD Ray led the Mavs with 16 points while Avante Lederer added 14 and Tyrel Morgan 12.
Malik Crawford grabbed 12 rebounds while Ray had five assists and five assists.
“A win is a win and we will take it,” said head coach Donnie Jackson. “That was a battle of two tired teams and fortunately we came out on top. I know we are capable of playing better, but so are they.”
“We made a few plays down the stretch when we needed to,” he said. “Malik (Crawford) and Syrus (Grisby) did an excellent job on the glass for us. In a game that both teams struggled in offensively, I thought those two were key in helping us pull out the win.”
The Mavs built a double figure lead in the first half and led 37-29 at the break.
On two occasions, the Mavs build double figure second half leads but could never shake the Jets.
NOC Enid cut the lead to 63-59 before the Mavs went on a 10-3 to finish the game at 74-62.
Lady Jets 59, Lady Mavs 54
The NOC Lady Mavs dropped a tough contest to NOC Enid Saturday afternoon at Foster-Piper Fieldhouse.
NOC (2-6) fell to 2-2 in conference play while NOC Enid (3-3) improved to 2-3 in conference play.
The Lady Mavs were led by Mia Brown with 13 while Radina Zhivachka added 10. Delaney Reimer led the Lady Mavs on the boards with 10 while Brown added five assists.
“Eventually, offensive struggles lead to defensive impatience and slow rotations on help defense,” said coach Greg Krause. “No time for looking back. We have another conference matchup Monday at Seminole.”
The Lady Mavs built a lead throughout the first half taking a 31-25 lead into the dressing room.
The Lady Jets then outscored the Lady Mavs 19-11 to take a 44-42 lead heading to the final quarter.
NOC Tonkawa tied the Lady Jets at 49-49 with 4:52 but the Lady Jets outscored the Lady Mavs 10-5 the rest of the way.
