NOC was led by Camryn Dennis with 14 and Avante Lederer with 13.

“Last night was an absolute dogfight defensively,” said Mavs coach Donnie Jackson.  “It was such a physical, intense basketball game. Neither team could shake each other and every small run either team had was answered with a small run right back from the other team.”

“I feel the game was won by Enid in the last five minutes and lost by us,” he added.  “Our late game shot selection was not very good and we didn’t guard the ball the way we were supposed to. They out toughed us mentally down the stretch. Credit to Enid for finishing the game the way they did.  I’m not disappointed with our effort level at all. We played very hard. We need to clean up some defensive miscues and we need to find a way to put a few more points on the board.”

The Mavs held a slim 32-30 halftime lead and built a 43-37 lead early in the second half.  After NOC Enid took a 46-43 lead, the Mavs went on a 13-6 run to take a 56-52 lead and held on to a 58-55 lead with 2:59 left.

The Jets then rallied with an 11-4 run of their own to seal the 66-62 win.

The Mavs host Redlands on Saturday at 4 p.m.

“We have a short turn around and play tomorrow against Redlands. We have no time to worry about last night anymore, we need to find a way to right the ship today and tomorrow.”

The Lady Mavs (3-9) fell to 3-5 in conference play while NOC Enid (5-5) improved to 4-5 in conference.

The Lady Mavs jumped out to a 14-0 lead and led 28-27 at half after an NOC Enid second quarter rally.

After a close third quarter that eight lead changes, the Lady Mavs led 51-48 with 6:20 left to play.

NOC Enid then closed the game on an 11-5 run to win 59-56.

The Lady Jets led 58-54 with :11.8 left when Mia Brown made two free throws to cut the lead to 58-56.  After the Lady Jets made one free throw, the Lady Mavs had one last chance but Gavriel Myers desperation 3-pointer at the buzzer was off the mark.

Radina Zhivachka led the Lady Mavs with 13 while Delaney Reimer added 11.  Brown led the Lady Mavs with eight rebounds.

“We had a good first quarter offensively, but couldn’t maintain it,” said coach Greg Krause.  “It’s important that we build on those offensive positives. Two more conference games in three days will give us that opportunity.”
