The Kay County Free Fair Facebook page was updated as follows:

“It’s with great sadness to report that there will NOT be a 2020 Kay County Free Fair. The board unanimously rejected the proposed lease agreement that the City Of Blackwell Presented.”

The Blackwell City Commission voted unanimously in favor of having the fair, and the following was posted on the F\Kay County Free Fair page on July 21st:

“Despite being cautioned by Emergency Management Director Cory Hanebrink on the health risks and the warning that the City of Blackwell could block the Kay County Free Fair from being held on their grounds, the Fair Board voted to move forward with a tentative schedule for the 2020 Kay County Free Fair in September.

This schedule would limit the carnival aspect to Thursday- Saturday while the 4H/FFA livestock portion would take place through the evening that week.
The Board now has to wait for the next scheduled meeting of the Blackwell City Council, Thursday August 6, before finding out if they can move forward.”
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
