Kay County filing period opens today for February elections

The filing period opened at 8 a.m. Monday at the Kay County Election Board for several offices, including for Ponca City’s Office of Mayor and candidates for the Boards of Education in seven Kay County School Districts.

Cheryl Howard, Secretary of the Kay County Election Board, said the filing period ends at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9.

The Board of Education positions at stake will be filled at the Annual School Election scheduled Feb. 9, 2016. If no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the total votes cast in this election, the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes will meet in an election on Tuesday, April 5, 2016. Offices for which Declarations of Candidacy will be accepted at the County Election Board Office include the following:

Blackwell School I-45 Office #1 5 year term
Kildare School C-50 Office #3 3 year term
Newkirk School I-125 Office #1 5 year term
Peckham School C-27 Office #1 3 year term
Pioneer Technology V-13 Zone #4 5 year term
Ponca City School I-71 Office #1 5 year term
Tonkawa School I-87 Office #1 5 year term

The Ponca City Office of Mayor, currently held by Homer Nicholson, is for a three-year term. A general election for the City of Ponca City, Oklahoma, will be held on Feb. 9, 2016, for the mayor’s position. A run-off election, if necessary, will be held on April 5, 2016.

School board candidates who had filed by 9 a.m. Monday include:

Julia Peri, Newkirk, Office 1 incumbent;

Robin Riley, Ponca City, Office 1 incumbent

Jerry Hook, Tonkawa, Office 4 incumbent.
