Rock star and philanthropist Jon Bon Jovi has been named the 2024 “MusiCares” Person of the Year for his efforts to establish a successful nonprofit that helps people in need.

Bon Jovi, who is the lead singer of the band with the same name, said a former member of The Beatles told him about the honor.

Thank you @MusiCares for making me your 2024 Person of the Year, and my dear friend @PaulMcCartney for being the first to let me know the news,” Bon Jovi wrote on X, which is the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. “Looking forward to celebrating on February 2nd and for this incredible night’s proceeds to raise essential funds for MusiCares.”

McCartney shared the news with Bon Jovi in a video on social media.

Hey, listen! I was given a MusiCares award a couple years ago and it was great — a real great honor for a beautiful charity,” McCartney says in the footage . “Well, I’ve got news for you. It’s you this year. You’re being given the honor, so congratulations, man. I hope you have a great time. You deserve it. Lot of love.”

Bon Jovi will be honored during the 33rd annual Person of the Year benefit gala at the Los Angeles Convention Center on Feb. 2, 2024. The event helps raise funds and awareness for MusiCares, as well as features a tribute concert that showcases renowned musicians paying tribute to the man himself.

Described as music’s leading nonprofit on its website, MusiCares provides “a safety net of critical health and welfare services to the music community.” It’s three key areas are mental health and addiction recovery services, health services, as well as human services, which offers support for basic living expenses like rent, utilities, car payments and insurance premiums.

Bon Jovi knows all about the importance of helping others and his impactful philanthropic work.

Seventeen years ago, he launched the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation. The nonprofit organization is dedicated to helping those dealing with homelessness and hunger.

Through the years, the nonprofit has helped provide support for almost 1,000 units of affordable and supportive housing in 12 states for thousands of people, including youth and veterans, according to its website.

His wife, Dorothea, serves as the founder and program director of the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Kitchen, an effort to feed the hungry.

“The Soul Foundation’s expanded mission helps those in need of a warm, nutritious meal and now operates three JBJ Soul Kitchens in New Jersey,” the website noted.

Bon Jovi is a Grammy Award winner, who founded his band in the early 1980s. Though there have been some lineup changes through the years, the band has transcended genres and continues to tour.
