EARTH DAY ACTIVITIES PLANNED FOR APRIL 22

Join the City of Ponca City, Ponca City Energy, and the Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority to celebrate “Earth Day” on Wednesday, April 22, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Hutchins Memorial Auditorium, 601 East Overbrook.

This year we will celebrate with giveaways, hands-on activities for the kids, and informational handouts from the Kay County District Conservation office. There will also be information from the Ponca City Public Works department regarding storm water runoff; Park and Recreation department regarding landscaping to save water; and Solid Waste department regarding recycling.

An industrial size shredder will also be on site to receive papers that can be shredded and recycled, rather than put into the trash. Please limit the quantity of paper to be shredded to two boxes per household.

Remember the Ponca City Recycling and Drop Off Center is located at 1001 West Prospect and is open Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It accepts the following items: car batteries, latex paint, clean glass, clean tin cans, newspapers, magazines, cardboard, aluminum cans, books and mixed metals.

If you need to dispose of motor oil, the following merchants will accept it within the limits specified: Auto Zone at 2104 North 14th, accepts motor oil only, up to 5 gallons per person, per day; and O’Reilly Auto Parts located at 3019 N. 14th and 104 W. Grand will accept motor oil, transmission fluid, and differential grease only, up to 5 gallons per person, per day.

The City of Ponca City encourages everyone to do what they can to keep our community clean and protect our natural resources. Information will be available and staff will be on hand to answer your questions.

For more information, please contact Rob Dick, Public Works at 767-0412.
