IRS Giving Extension to People Who Have Not Claimed Stimulus Checks

News 6 - October 16, 2022 11:50 am

Three rounds of stimulus checks were given to millions of people during the pandemic, but a lot of people still haven’t claimed theirs.

The IRS said it will send letters to families who are eligible for benefits, which include stimulus checks.

The official deadline to file tax returns for 2021 is Monday, but the IRS is giving an extension.

“They’re giving people another 30 days to November 17th, even though you would be filing your return late to get that stimulus on there. So after November 17th, if you file a late tax return for 2021, even if you’re entitled to get the $1,400 on that return you are not going to get it,” said Paul Hood with Hood and Associated CPA.

To claim a stimulus payment, people should head to the IRS website for Economic Impact Payments and follow the instructions from there.

People will have to file a simplified tax return to receive the money.
