I-35 bridge project near SH-11 in Kay County starts today

Ponca City Now - September 8, 2015 9:26 am

A project to remove two bridges over an abandoned railroad line on I-35 just south of SH-11 near Blackwell in Kay County is scheduled to begin Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Lane closures are not expected to start until Thursday, Sept. 10, but drivers should be alert to crews working in the area. When lane closures begin, traffic will be narrowed to one lane in each direction and lanes will be shifted at varying times during the project. Drivers should plan extra travel time, especially during high traffic times such as weekends.

The $3 million project will remove two bridges over an abandoned rail line, fill in the area and construct new pavement on northbound and southbound I-35.

The project, awarded to Manhattan Road & Bridge Co. of Tulsa, is expected to be finished by early February.
