The Ponca City Humane Society is closed today to the general public.

“We discovered a major gas leak yesterday evening,” Executive Director Patricia Amador said. “This morning the smell of gas is still evident and we are working to discover the source. Our animals are doing okay, but we will be moving them around.”

Amador asked for help from the public.

“If anyone would like to help us, we are in need of additional crates and carriers, and with laundry. We are not able to turn on any of our machines at this time.”

She said staff will still answer the phone, answer any questions at the gate and will accommodate adopters at a different location.

An adoption event is set for Saturday at PetSense, 2129 North 14th Street, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
