New Northern Oklahoma College Regent Jami Groendyke was sworn in Wednesday at the July Board of Regents meeting at the Renfro Center at NOC Tonkawa.

She was sworn in by the Hon. Judge David R. Bandy, an associate judge for the 8th District in Oklahoma serving Kay and Noble Counties.

Groendkye, an Enid Real Estate Appraiser originally from Claremore, is a 2003 graduate of Northern Oklahoma College, earning an Associate Degree in Science from NOC Enid.  She also played on the Lady Jets’ basketball team.

She later earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science from the University of Oklahoma in 2005. She previously served as a trustee to the Northern Oklahoma College Foundation her term ending June 30, 2020.

She has worked in youth athletics and health promotion in the Enid area since 2006.

“Jami is going to bring a fresh perspective to the board,” said NOC President Dr. Cheryl Evans.  “It is good to have an outstanding alumna of the College serving.  We are very pleased to have her join the board of regents.”

In other business, regents approved the NOC Employee Handbook, 2020-21 Course Catalog, and also approved student handbook updates.

Regents also approved tenure requests for NOC instructors Lynn DeMuth, Wendy O’Neill, and Kathy Shamburg.  The tenure requests were recommended by Math Division Chair Cassie Firth.

The BOR also approved several July purchases including Video Conferencing equipment for Hybrid-Zoom classrooms on all campuses, the replacement of desktop and surface tablets for all campuses, and Video Conferencing equipment for the Renfro Center and Walcher Conference Center at NOC Tonkawa.

Regents also heard a presentation from Dr. Kathleen Otto, NOC Director of Institutional Research, regarding the NOC Fact Book.  The Fact Book is a 107-page document providing detailed information about NOC.  NOC started producing the document in 2014.

“The Fact Book is an important document,” said Dr. Evans.  “It allows us to share accurate information for reporting pertinent information about NOC.  It is a very time consuming and labor-intensive document to produce.  I appreciate Dr. Otto and all our staff for their hard work to produce this important document.”

In the administrator reports, Vice President for Enid Raydon Leaton and Vice President for Stillwater Diana Watkins reported that a number of campus tours have been ongoing at Enid and Stillwater as students begin the process of making plans for the fall.

Vice President for Student Affairs Jason Johnson reported that new athletic director Alan Foster will begin July 27.  Johnson said Foster has 30 years of experience in coaching and working as an athletic director.

Sheri Snyder, Vice President for Development and Community Relations, said that plans are ongoing for NOC’s Virtual Graduation, set for Aug. 8 at 9:30 a.m.
