Former Nowata County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Arrested for Embezzlement

KTUL - July 12, 2024 5:48 am

A former Nowata County Deputy is facing embezzlement charges.

It stems from an investigation in 2018 where the Oklahoma State Auditor and Inspector’s Office found six firearms were missing from the Nowata County Sheriff’s Office.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) said evidence led agents to former deputy Thomas Jay Campbell’s residence.

On June 26, 2024, a search warrant was served where one of the missing firearms was found.

On July 3, Campbell was arrested and booked into the Craig County Jail for embezzlement.

OSBI said this is still an ongoing investigation.

Nowata County Sheriff Jason McClain said Campbell posted a $5,000 bond the same day he was booked into jail.

He is no longer in police custody and is scheduled to appear in court on July 29 at 9 a.m.
