Food Bank continues to pack food during walkout

Ponca City Now - April 10, 2018 10:07 am

CLARIFICATION: The food provided by the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma is PACKED ONLY for carry-out so families have food on hand to feed their children who may be missing breakfasts and lunches from their school programs. NO MEALS are served at the New Emergency Resource Agency.

The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma continues to pack food for Oklahomans impacted by the teacher walkout. The nonprofit is working with its strong partner network of more than 300 agencies and nearly 40 organizations across central and western Oklahoma to provide boxes full of food to families and school personnel.

“Last week, we provided food for 737 families and school personnel, impacted by the teacher walkout,” said Katie Fitzgerald, chief executive officer of the Regional Food Bank. “Thanks to our partners and the community, we are able to provide enough food to feed 136,000 Oklahomans every week – and also meet the increase in the need for food assistance during the walkout.”

In Ponca City, families with school-age children (verification is required) can receive food at New Emergency Resource Agency Food & Resource Center. For hours of operation and location, call (580) 765-5372.

Families must provide verification of their school-age child or children at the agencies listed above. For verification, bring a child to the partner agency, or provide one of the following items: birth certificate or adoption record; class list with the child’s name; a copy of school records; current progress report; current report card; dated school photo; electronic record; identification card; immunization records; shot record; or student ID.
