Newkirk boy dies in ATV accident

A 12-year-old Newkirk boy was killed in an accident involving an ATV just before 7 p.m. Thursday on private property on Pecan Road, 3/10 mile northof Canteen, a mile south of Newkirk.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene with a head injury and was transported to Miller Stahl Funeral Home in Newkirk, according to a report by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

The patrol said the ATV was northbound in a pasture and struck a wooden post lying on the ground. The ATV then went into a broadslide, rolled ½ time and then rolled back ¼ time, coming to rest on the driver’s side.
