Fairfax man dies in accident near Pawnee

A fatal accident was reported at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday on State Highway 18, three miles north of Pawnee, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Reported.

Austin Lee Franks, 22, of Fairfax was pronounced dead at the scene from internal trunk injuries and was transported to Poteet Funeral Home in Poteet, the Patrol reported.

Franks was driving a  2005 Toyota Camry southbound on SH18. The vehicle departed the roadway right for an unknown reason; the driver overcorrected to the left, entered into a broadslide across the roadway, departed the roadway to the left, struck two trees, rotated ¾ turn and rolled 1 time, coming to rest on its wheels, the Patrol reported.

 

A passenger, Dorcas Georgette Hall-Zotigh, 19, of Pawnee, was transported by ambulance to Stillwater Medical Center in stable condition with leg, trunk internal, and trunk external injuries. She was 32 weeks pregnant; the unborn child died due to the injuries Hall-Zotigh.

The Patrol reported the accident remains under investigation.
