 –

Southern Rock Energy Partners has picked Cushing as the location for a new refinery.

City leaders are praising the investment, saying it will contribute to growth and more jobs.

“We were already seeing quite the growth,” said Tracy Culfield, Cushing Chamber of Commerce. “This news announcement this week, it just makes it icing on the cake for everything.”

City leaders said the refinery will be equipped to produce 250,000 barrels a day.

“For 111 years, Cushing has been a refinery town,” said Bruce Johnson, Cushing Economic Development Foundation.

Johnson was on the team responsible for recruiting the development to town.

It is expected to employ more than 400 people and contribute billions to the city and state.

“This is the biggest win that I know for Cushing in decades,” said Johnson. “It may be the biggest win for the state of Oklahoma in its entire history.”

Organizers are choosing between three options for the permanent location. Construction is expected to start next year and finish in 2027.
