Elm Street Project contract awarded by Commission

Beverly Bryant - February 13, 2018 3:01 pm

A contract for street and water line improvements on South Elm Street, from Oklahoma Avenue to Grand Avenue, was awarded to River Ridge Construction, LLC, of Newkirk during Monday night’s City Commission meeting.

The $314,762.82 project is the third phase of a project to improve Elm Street from Otoe Avenue  to Grand Avenue.

The project will include reconstruction of the street, sidewalks and driveways, as well as replacement of the water line, City Engineer Jim Fairbanks said.

Fairbanks told commissioners six contractors came to mandatory pre-bid meeting but only two bids were submitted. The bid from River Ridge was 25 percent below the engineer’s estimate, Fairbanks said.

This work was part of the first phase of the Elm Street project, from Otoe Avenue to Ponca Avenue. The contract awarded Monday night will extend the project into the third phase, from Oklahoma Avenue to Grand Avenue.
