Drug collection event set for May 17

Ponca City Now - May 1, 2019 4:02 pm

Sergeant Jerry Hall, with the Ponca City Police Department, is hosting an opportunity to dispose of
unused or expired prescriptions and over-the-counter medication the safe way.

The Ponca City Senior Center at 319 W. Grand will be an approved collection site on Friday, May 17, 2019, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Drugs that are thrown in the trash can be retrieved by others and sold, and flushing medications can
potentially contaminate the water supply, Hall said.

“By safely disposing, you will help prevent poisoning, misuse, and overdose in the community. This event is provided by community partners Ponca City Police Department, Ponca City Senior Center, RSVP, and United Way of Ponca City,” Hall said.

The Ponca City Police Department also has a disposal box in the lobby of  the Public Safety Center at 200 East Oklahoma.
