Don’t forget to buckle up during holiday travel

The July 4 holiday is one of the deadliest for travelers across the United States, primarily because of vehicle occupants not wearing their safety belts.

Police encourage you to make sure every time you get into a vehicle you and everyone in the vehicle buckles up.

The Ponca City Police Department is partnering with the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office to keep the streets of our town safe.

“If an officer sees a driver not wearing a safety belt, likely their car will be pulled over” says Patrol Division Captain Randy Tyner.

“We’d rather pull you over, issue a warning or citation and encourage compliance, than to notify your family that you were killed in an accident and were not wearing your safety belt,” Tyner added.
