Director teaching character development workshops

Beverly Bryant - January 10, 2017 12:22 pm

Nick Sweet, along with directing the production of “9 to 5 The Musical,” also is teaching two character development workshops Jan. 14 and 15.

If you are interested, please call the Playhouse at (580) 765-5360 or e-mail [email protected].

The student workshop is 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, and an adult workshop will be from 5 to 7  p.m. Sunday.

The student workshop will focus on “Conveying Emotions — Verbal and Non-verbal.” Cost is $15, which includes supplies. It focuses on conveying everyday emotions on stage. Verbal emotions are conveyed through speech, inflection and tone of voice. Non-verbal emotions are demonstrated through gestures, facial expressions and body language. Improvisation also will be used.

The adult workshop will focus on “Constructing Your Back Story.” Cost is $20, which includes supplies.

The adult workshop includes a staged reading by two Playhouse actresses of the short play “Lullaby,” followed by a step-by-step method for constructing an “off-stage life” for the characters. This process helps the actors understand their characters’ motivations and goals.

To enroll in either workshop, or for more information, call the Ponca Playhouse at (580) 765-5360.
