County Candidate Filing Begins April 8th

The statewide candidate filing period begins at 8 a.m. Wednesday, April 8th, said Cheryl Howard, Secretary of the Kay County Election Board.

Filing will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (8, 9, and 10 April). The deadline for filing as a candidate is 5 p.m. Friday, April 10th, with no exceptions.

Candidates for state offices file with the Secretary of the State Election Board in Oklahoma City. Candidates for county offices file with the Secretary of the County Election Board.

Howard said that the following county offices will be filled this year:

  • Kay County Clerk
  • Kay County Court Clerk
  • Kay County Sheriff
  • Kay County Commissioner District #2

The Kay County Courthouse is closed to the public at this time. Candidates wishing to file for one of these County Offices should come to the West circle drive entrance of the courthouse on Maple Street and call the Election Board phone number; 580-362-2130 and wait outside the door and the Election Board personnel will receive and accept the candidate filing at the west basement door. Copies of the Declaration of Candidacy and receipt of the Cashiers check will be mailed to the candidate.
