Clayton man drowns in McCurtain County

A 73-year-old Clayton, Oklahoma, man drowned Monday southeast of Tom in McCurtain County, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports.

Benjamin Morris was driving a 2009 Chevrolet pickup truck three miles south and a half mile east of Tom, the Patrol said. He was eastbound at State Highway 87 at a roadway closed due to high water. The Patrol said he drove around the barricades and continued on the flooded roadway.

His vehicle became disabled and he attempted to get out of the vehicle and was overcome by the rising water, the Patrol reported.

His body was transported to the Tulsa M edical Examiner’s office.
