City crews replacing South Elm Street, water lines

Construction on the final phase of reconstruction on South Elm Street, from Oklahoma Avenue to Grand Avenue, begins Monday. This photo shows work on a previous phase.

Construction is underway on South Elm Street from Otoe to Ponca Avenues.

This project includes relocating and upsizing water lines, removal of the old brick street and reconstruction of the roadway.

It will include new curbs and gutters as well as sidewalks.

This project, along with a section of North Elm Street from Highland to Summit, are part of a contract with Evans and Associates for $604,316.14. Evans' bid was about $130,000 less than the engineering estimate of $733,121.

Just for the roadway portion, the engineering estimate was $567,348 and Evans' bid was $451,034.
