Citizens’ Police Academy offers many experiences

Ponca City Now - December 17, 2014 2:14 pm

The Citizen’s Police academy offers a variety of experiences. Along with learning the key elements of investigations, participants are able to practice on the use of force simulator and shoot a variety of weapons firearms at the Police firing range.

The applications are now available for the 19th session of the Citizen’s Police Academy. Applications are available at the Records Division of the Ponca City Police Department from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Applications are also available on the City of Ponca City’s website, poncacityok.gov/departments/police/citizen police academy. Original printed applications are due back to the Police Department by 5 p.m. Dec. 29.

In previous years, more applications are received than the limit of 20 participants. Since each session builds on the ones that follow, weekly attendance is required.

Classes meet from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. each Thursday. The first class will be held on Jan. 29, 2015, and will conclude on April 16 with a graduation reception set for April 23.

The instructors are members of the Ponca City Police Department.

For more information, contact Police Chief Don Bohon at 767-0370.
