Child Abuse Group Meets

Ponca City Now - September 9, 2013 9:21 am

A rant on Facebook caught the attention of a few concerned citizens.

They felt Ponca City needed more education on child abuse, so they began a professional group.

They invited professionals from DHS, The Dearing House and law enforcement to bring this idea to life.

District Attorney, Brian Hermanson said this group is great for the community.

“This group could be outstanding for us,” Hermanson said. “To have a meeting like this, I think it will help the public to understand what the level of child abuse and child neglect and sexual abuse are in our county. It will let people know there are concerned agencies working on an everyday basis trying to resolve these issues, protect the children, try to provide the children with that kind of mental and medical aid they may need. And than another group of agencies that’s involved in prosecuting those persons that do those crimes to make sure they don’t do them again.”

The group plans to involve the community soon.
