Ponca City Now - March 2, 2015 8:49 am
This past weekend our staff worked two tourism shows promoting Ponca City. Our city is so easy to promote as a tourist destination, highlighting our attractions, our events, unique shopping, awesome dining, casinos and lots of outdoor recreation.
Yes we have all that, but we also have things unique to Ponca City. Our 55-room Marland Mansion and Estate with several museums on the grounds and artifacts you can only see at the Marland Mansion. Marland’s Grand Home with Oklahoma’s first indoor swimming pool, and the location for the 101 Ranch Museum. The Matzene collection of Asian art located at our library. This art work is amazing and again can only be seen in Ponca City. The collection of movie lobby art in the historic Poncan Theatre is priceless and the only collection of its kind. The story of Chief Standing Bear is not only inspiring but significant in Native American history. And the Standing Bear statue is the tallest bronze statue in Oklahoma. The Pioneer Woman Museum and Statue tell the story of pioneering women, past and present. I have always been impressed with our Art Center located in the historic Soldani Mansion. Who else has something so beautiful?
Then we tell them about our many casinos, the L.A. Cann Estate, Conoco Museum, Wentz Pool and Camp, City Hall and the Centennial Plaza, our many statues, beautiful murals, awesome golf courses, disc golf courses, walking and riding trails, Sun ‘n Fun Waterpark, and our three lakes — Lake Ponca, Kaw Lake, Sooner Lake — that offer camping, fishing, hunting!
Ponca City literally has events taking place every week of the year. With everything we have to offer, we are truly a tourist destination. There is not another city in Oklahoma outside of OKC and Tulsa that has what we have to offer in the way of tourism! Tourism is big time business for Ponca City!
