KOKH - March 25, 2024 4:00 pm

Three construction workers were hit by a car on I-35 near Tonkawa Monday morning.

One worker died at the scene, and the two others were taken to the hospital.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol said a car traveling southbound on I-35 hit the workers when it went up the side of the bridge.

The car came to a stop after sliding down and had a shattered windshield.

OHP believes the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel.

The driver stayed on the scene.

No names have been released, however, OHP confirmed the worker who died was a man.

The two other workers were flown by helicopter to a Kansas hospital.

OHP said one worker had internal injuries and the other had at least a broken leg.

The accident is being investigated as a homicide, but it will be up to the District Attorney on whether charges will be filed, according to OHP.
