Capitol Update From Representative Ken Luttrell

Ponca City Now - March 13, 2023 10:20 am

Rep. Ken Luttrell represents District 37 in the Oklahoma House of Representatives, which includes parts of Kay and Osage counties.

This week in the House saw us reach the halfway point of the legislative session. Before the committee deadline, we saw 543 bills pass out of House committees for consideration on the floor, and this week we heard 163 different measures before the full body. So far this session I’ve had four bills pass the House and one that is still on the floor calendar for consideration.

My bills currently in the Senate are:

HB 1076 – removes the requirement that handlebars on motorcycles not be higher than eye level of the operator.

HB 1077 – directs the Department of Public Safety to develop and implement a statewide Kasey Alert system to be activated on behalf of a critically missing adult. A critically missing adult is a person between the ages of 18 and 59 whose where abouts are unknown and who is believed to have been abducted or taken against his or her will.

HB 1079 – requires every courier application service to have an agreement with a restaurant in order to transport for delivery. If no agreement exists, the restaurant may file a complaint with the Consumer Services Division of the Corporation Commission.

HB 1395 – pertains to the Oklahoma Horse Racing Act. The measure allows members of the Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission, and members of their immediate family, to receive certain rewards and awards from the Oklahoma Breeding Development Fund Special Account.

My HB 1027, which legalizes sports betting and provides a model tribal gaming compact supplement for tribes to use if they want to offer sports betting, is still waiting to be heard in the House.

I’ve had a large number of visitors from the district recently, and as always, it has a been a pleasure to see smiling faces from home. Visitors who have come to say hello at the Capitol include: Ponca City educators and administrators, Pawhuska FFA, Farm Bureau, ABATE members, Ponca City realtors, Ponca City Leadership class and even Miss Ponca City! If you are ever in Oklahoma City, please stop by the office and say hi.

That’s it for this week, but thank you again for allowing me to serve you, it’s a privilege. If I can help you with anything, feel free to call my Capitol office at (405) 557-7355 or email me at [email protected].
