Blackwell resident injured in vehicle vs. pedestrian collision

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported a personal injury collision occurred about 10:33 a.m. Sunday on I35 northbound near mile marker 223, about 0.4 miles west and 0.1 miles north of Blackwell, OK in Kay County.

The patrol said the accident involved a 2015 Freightliner driven by David Michael McConahy, 69, of Bixby, OK. McConahy was not injured.

A passenger in McConahy’s vehicle, Kevin Mark Foster, 55, of Lindsey, OK was also not injured.

A pedestrian, Michael Ray Sharp, 49, of Blackwell, OK was transported by Blackwell EMS to Blackwell Regional Hospital and then airlifted by Air-Method to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS. There he was admitted in critical condition with head, arm, leg, trunk internal, and trunk external injuries.

The Highway Patrol’s report stated that McConahy’s vehicle was north bound on I35 traveling in the outside lane when Sharp ran across the roadway stopping in the outside lane infront of the vehicle. The vehicle swerved right in an attempt to avoid Sharp, however the vehicle struck Sharp. Airbags were equipped, but did not deploy. Seatbelts were equipped and in use.
