Battery explodes in student’s backpack

The Ponca City Police Department reports a  lithium battery exploded in the backpack of a student at East Middle School  at 9:55 a.m. Thursday.

The incident caused some commotion and four students suffered very minor injuries. The parents of those injured have been contacted.

The Police Department reports the incident has been reviewed on surveillance video and there was no crime committed.
