Art Center Director bids farewell

Ponca City Now - September 4, 2014 6:49 am

This weekend’s Arts Festival isn’t the first and isn’t the last, but it’s the last for the current Art Center Director. Jerry Cathey said he is retiring after six years of directing.

"I said I want to retire and do things for me," Cathey said.

On top of committing hours to the Art Center, Cathey has also cared for three siblings along the way.

Cathey isn’t gone yet though, he is preparing for the Arts Festival this weekend. The lawn was mowed yesterday and today they will mark for tents. The festival is this Saturday and Sunday, from 9 to 5 and hosts artists from Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas.

" We got about 40 artists, we got the kids art," Cathey said. "It’s going to be two days and it’s going to rain so bring your umbrella."

Karen York with the Sherwin-Miller Jewish Museum of Art in Tulsa and Tulsa University art professor will judge the art. First place gets $300, second place gets $200 and third gets $125.
