Art Center announces new classes

The Ponca City Art Center kicks off 2017 with a slate of new classes. Classes offered for the Spring 2017 semester begin Feb. 6 with enrollment beginning immediately.
Focusing on after-school programs for children and evening classes for adults, these new classes make it easy for anyone to attend.
“For years, the Art Center has been driven not only to exhibit, but also to teach,” said Executive Director Lance Garrett. “With the massive budget shortfalls the school systems are facing, we feel the Art Center can step up and fill much-needed art education.”
Some of the subjects covered this semester include wheel-thrown pottery, oil pastels, drawing, oil painting, and hand-building pottery.
When talking about pottery classes, Alena Jennings, the Art Center pottery instructor says, “Anyone can do pottery. All it takes is practice and patience.”
One look at some of her completed class pieces and you would have to agree.
Another fun and unique pottery activity that the Art Center provides is the Grapes & Glazin’ classes, which take the concept of familiar wine and palette nights and let students glaze a piece of pottery. The Grapes & Glazin’ classes are popular and fill up rather quickly.
“One class we are very excited about is the Superhero Drawing class for kids. It is one of our four-week Saturday workshop-style classes we are offering this semester,” Garrett said. “The Saturday workshops allow us to bring more diverse subjects into the classrooms.”
Other workshops that are being planned include collage, photography, computer-based drawing, Photoshop, and chalk drawing.
Announcements on when new classes become available will be sent via email and will be listed on the Art Center’s Facebook page.
Students can enroll through the Art Center’s website,  www.poncacityartcenter.org or by phone at (580) 765-9746. When enrolling online, go to the website and click on ONLINE CLASS SIGNUP for all the information and for sign-up instructions.
Whether you are a parent looking for a great after school activity for your kids or you’re looking for a fun new hobby, check out the class offerings at the Art Center.
