The Kay County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday it received information on another scam, this time dealing with payday loans.
With this scam, Grimes said, callers may identify themselves as working with the Kay County Court Clerk’s Office or with a collections agency.
The scam artists will say you owe a certain amount of money to a payday loan company. The person working the scam will have a lot of personal information, such as home address, date of birth, Social Security number, and possible place of employment.
Grimes said the caller will sound official and convincing. The person working the scam will also threaten nonpayment with a subpoena or warrant for your arrest.
He said that If you receive a phone call like this, do not give out any personal information, such as credit/debit card numbers or banking information.
If you do receive a call, please contact the Kay County Sheriff’s Office at (580) 362-2517 or the District Attorney’s Office, (580) 362-2571.
