OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) — Alysia Adams, the former caretaker of Athena Brownfield, has had her charges upgraded from child neglect to first-degree murder.
Originally arrested for child neglect in the homicide investigation in January, her charges have been moved up to first-degree murder.
Adams was supposed to be looking after Brownfield at the time of her disappearance.
In January, courts originally charged Adams’s husband, Ivon Adams with the murder of Brownfield.
Brownfield was first reported missing in January by a postal carrier, who found Brownfield’s sister near the home.
Brownfield was allegedly beaten to death on Christmas Day by Ivon Adams, as reported to officials by Alysia Adams.
It was also reported that the remains of the child were discovered in the Rush Springs area in January, and the remains were identified as Brownfield in August.
While Alysia’s charges have been moved up to first-degree murder, Ivon’s have been downgraded to second-degree murder.
Alysia had a court hearing on December 12 and will be arraigned on February 21, 2024, at 10:30 A.M.
