Alligators in Oklahoma Return

News 6-Kristin Weaver - May 20, 2023 3:40 pm

Researchers are working on a project with the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation (ODWC) to study native alligators in Southeast Oklahoma.
They are catching adult alligators now that it’s getting warmer outside.
Once trapped, the researchers will shut the gators’ jaws, then measure and weigh the alligators, then attach a transmitter on their backs to track their movements before releasing them back to the water.
To be clear, these are NATIVE alligators and have been in Oklahoma for a long, long time.
The researchers are simply wanting to know the scope of how many gators are here and learn about their mating and life in Southeastern Oklahoma.
